Revealing the Influence of Parenting Styles on the Discipline of Early Childhood 5–6 Years Old

Abstrak

Discipline can be developed from an early age through parenting patterns practiced within the family, in which parents play a major role. This study aims to obtain accurate (valid) data regarding the existence or absence of the influence of parenting styles on the discipline of children aged 5–6 years in school. The research employed a quantitative approach, using the Ex-Post Facto method, in which the independent variable or treatment affects the dependent variable or outcome under controlled conditions. The study was conducted over three weeks and involved 25 students. Data were collected using random sampling techniques. The results of the study indicate that authoritarian, permissive, and democratic parenting styles have an influence on the discipline of children aged 5–6 years. The hypothesis testing was carried out using ANOVA. Based on the calculation results, the obtained F-count = 9.885, with a Sig. (p-value) = 0.005 < 0.05, thus H ₀ was rejected and H ₁ was accepted. The results also show that F-count > F-table, leading to the conclusion that there is a significant influence of parenting styles—authoritarian, permissive, and democratic—on the discipline of children aged 5–6 years.
