Improving Students' Reading Comprehension By Using SQ3R Method

Abstract

Purpose of this research is to overcome the students’ problem in learning English, and also to find out the effectiveness of SQ3R technique in reading class. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Pebayuran Bekasi in the first semester of the year academic of 2021/2022 at the 10th grade. This research uses qualitative paradigm and the method is Classroom Action Research. This is Classroom Action Research method through three cycles, it consist of four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data presented in collected the data this research are gained from observation, interview and the result of test. Based on technique of collecting data, it has been gained the data, there are found that SQ3R technique makes the students easier to comprehend the content of reading text. From students score have been gained data from each cycle. The average score in the cycle one is 57,56, cycle is two 74,32, and cycle three is 85,85. Based on some criterias above, the researcher found that there was significant improvement of students reading comprehension through SQ3R technique from cycle one to cycle three. The technique can be improve in reading comprehension.
